The Jews of Shklov

2012
284 pages

This book by Zalman Shneur is a collection of short stories about his hometown, which are filled with soft irony and nostalgia. The author tries to depict Belorussian shtetl with all its cultural uniqueness, highlighting local pecularities and inwardly arguing with the poet of Ukranian shtetls Sholom-Aleichem. The lyric portret of the shtetl in The Jews of Shklov is undoubtedly one of the best in the Jewish literature.
